Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but vulnerable characters, is one of the most celebrated American actors of today. Born to a well-known playwright's father but being raised by a single mother who worked in the field of nursing, she was drawn to theatre when having summers spent with her father, eventually studying acting, initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Beginning her career at the Broadway soon after graduation, she made her debut in film within two years and on television following a year. Innumerable appearances in movies, television shows and stage productions since then. She has won many awards throughout her career. These include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards as well as three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her recognitions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she is determined to perform on stage and screen.
