Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation living in Atlanta that began with her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Her father took an early interest in stage. As a student at Emory University in 1952 he participated in plays on campus as well as elsewhere in Atlanta. The air force was drafted in 1953. During his time located in Biloxi Mississippi was cast in an military production starring Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. In 1955, the couple married and, in 1956, their child Eric Anthony was born. In 1957 the couple left the Air Force and Walter entered Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960 the family moved into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964, Walter together with Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show titled Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. In the following year, they established the Actors and Writers Workshop which was in operation for six years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also also known as Lisa) as well as Julia (also also known as Julie) throughout this time.
